The Delmore Brothers -- Alton and Rabon Delmore, the Alabama duo whose soft close harmony made them stars of the early Grand Ole Opry -- recorded this run of fifteen-minute gospel programs around 1949 for syndication on the US/Mexico border stations. Cut to disc at KWHN in Fort Smith, Arkansas and beamed out over XERB and its sister "border blasters," the roughly forty-five shows lean almost entirely on sacred song: "Turn Your Radio On," "He Set Me Free," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," and the rest of the revival repertory closest to the brothers' Alabama roots. Harmonica ace Wayne Raney, who co-wrote their King hit "Blues Stay Away From Me," rounds out the trio. Several times a show the performers pause to pitch the songbook they were selling -- the border-radio economics of the day, in which a mail-order folio earned more than the airtime itself. The copies survive undated, in the order they were preserved by the Old Time Radio Researchers; no broadcast log fixes their dates or sequence.
