Can You Imagine That

March 11, 1940 – June 5, 1940 · 39 broadcasts

"Can You Imagine That?" packed a whole cabinet of curiosities into fifteen minutes. Written, directed, hosted and narrated by Lindsay MacHarrie -- the KHJ/KMPC man who also produced the beloved holiday serial "The Cinnamon Bear" -- each 1940 installment rattled off four to six strange-but-true tales lifted from the newspaper columns and dramatized on the spot, "a combination of Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Information Please, and Can You Top This?" MacHarrie and comedienne Elvia Allman voiced the lot between them, and every episode closed on the odd backstory of a famous song. A Bruce Eells & Associates / Broadcaster's Program Syndicate release, it originated on KMPC Los Angeles. Thirty-nine episodes survive in the OTRR collection -- undated, and about as breezy a slice of vintage trivia radio as exists.
